The Royal Bardia National Park is the largest and most
undisturbed protected area in the Terai and is hometo
the endangered Royal Bengal tiger and Nepal’s famous one
horned rhinoceros. The national park located in the far
western district of Bardiya, is bordered by River
Karnali in the west, the Churia range in the north,
while the River Babai flows right through the park. The
varied geographical factors together with the thick
cover of Sal, savannah forests and grasslands render
this region ideal as wild animal habitat. The park hosts
30 different mammals, more then 250 species of birds,
and several varieties of reptiles and water animals.
Some of the animals found here are elephant, swamp deer,
blackbuck, gharial crocodile and marsh crocodile. The
exotic Gangetic Dolphin is also sometimes seen in River
Karnali. Birds include endangered varieties of Bengal
florican, lesser florican, silver eared mesia and sarus
crane. The park offers the rare opportunity of fishing
at River Karnali and River Babai. The best time to visit
the park is autumn, winter and early summer when the
weather is warm and dry. The best way to reach the Royal
Bardia National Park is via Nepalgunj in Banke district.
Nepalganj is connected by air and by road to the capital
and other cities in the west. The park’s headquarters
Thakurdwara is approximately an hour’s drive away which
is also connected by air to Kathmandu.

Locations: The Park,
Nepal’s most undisturbed protected areas, is situated in
the middle far western part of Terai and east of the
Karnali River. It is 400 Kms. West of Kathmandu.
Climate: Oct – April
(dry and pleasant), April – June (warm and humid), June
– September (hot and sweaty).
Features: The
highest point on the crest of the Churia range to north
of the park offers a perfect sightseeing. In the north
is the Surkhet valley and to the south is the ever
stretching plain of the Terai.
Flora: Approximately
70% of the Park is covered by Sal forest and a mixture
of grassland and savannah forest.
Fauna: The Park
is home to the famous Mahseer game fish, gharial, mugger
crocodile, marsh mugger crocodile etc.
Wildlife Activities: Elephant Safari, Canoeing, Nature
walk, Bird watching, Jungle Excursion, Swimming &
Elephant Bathing, Jungle Drive, Elephant briefing, Tharu
cultural dance etc.
Park Regulations: Entry park fee is
required, flora and fauna must be protected and
undisturbed, rubbish must be packed out, buried or
disposed off designated areas, respect cultural and
religious sites, prohibit to walk within the park
between sunset and sunrise, use of firewood id strictly
prohibited.

Elephant Safari:
Seated high on the back of a trained elephant
exploring the grasslands and forest, you become a part
of the life of the jungle. It is a experience of
lifetime approaching closely but safely to some of the
world’s rarest animals.
Nature Walk:
Walk deep into the jungle, led by one of the
lodge’s experienced naturalist to prime spots in search
of rare animals. Be on the lookout for the great one
horned rhino, four different species of deer, wild boar,
sloth bear, leopard, bison and the 'Royal Bengal Tiger'.
Tharu Stick Dance:
Watched by the bon fire the symbolic dances of
the Tharu People.

Jungle Drive:
Drive into the heart of the park for a good
chance to spot the rare species.
Canoeing:
A journey down the river, in a traditional 'dug
out canoe', offers you the chance to quietly observe the
exotic species of birds and animals that come for a sip
at the water’s edge.
Elephant Bathing:
Just relax beside the serene river and watch the
graceful elephants taking a bath or if its too tempting,
join them while taking a dip.
Elephant Briefing:
Of all the animals. Elephants are probably the
most graceful. Our naturalists will show you how the
elephants' meals are prepared and how they eat. They
will explain the nature and habits of elephants. If
particularly interested in driving the animal, an
opportunity will be provided.
Bird Watching:
An early morning walk through the bush and along
the Jungle is a must to view many of the more than 450
species of exotic birds including the Giant Hornbill,
Lesser Florican and Paradise Flycatcher. You will be
accompanied by our experienced naturalists.
Note:
- All timings are subject to change according to
the season. Canoeing will be offered from October until
mid-March only. Jungle drive will be offered from
mid-November until June only.
