Rolwaling Trek:
Rolwaling valley extends east to west of the Gauri
Shankar Massif (7134 m) and this trek through the
Rolwaling valley is one of the truly
"off-the-beaten-tracks". Starting with a drive from
Kathmandu to the village of Charikot. Passing through
the Rolwaling valley and cross the Tashi Labtsa to the
Khumbu valley. Returning to Kathmandu via the remote
mountain airstrip of Lukla. The route can be reversed as
well. However, the strain and degree of difficulty are
constantly rewarded with visits to remote villages, the
magnificence of the omni-present Mountains and walks
through thick Rhododendron forests. On the approach to
the Tashi Lapcha pass (5755 m), the northern skyline is
constantly dominated by the summit of Mt.Gauri Shankar
(7146 m.), for a long time confused with Everest and
thought to be the highest mountain in the world. This
trek takes you through a demographic cross section of
Nepal that can not be sampled on any other trek. Since
the reopening of this route the small Sherpa villages of
Bedding and Na are accessible to trekkers who would like
to see what traditional Sherpa culture, untouched by
western influence, really look like.
